Got Lumps? Get them checked out immediately

I remember a lesson back in my college years in Nursing when we were taught on how to properly palpate our patients to feel any form of lumps that may signal a medical concern.

I believe this skill has been a great help for me especially when I need to check some of my family members who expressed worry about something either movable or not in some parts of their body.

metacarpophalangeal-joint-inspection

When you feel a lump in any part of your body or an accumulation of mass under your skin, it always makes you stop, feel it again and think about why or how you got it. Many lumps are harmless.

These can be associated with physical activities such as exercise and commuting, or curable, minor health conditions. If they persist, however, these lumps can be a sign of something more serious.

Non-serious lumps are usually soft, mobile or can move or change shape when touched, located in the superficial layer of the skin, or can grow large and painful with activity but diminishing in size with rest. For these types of lumps, mostly resulting from rigorous physical activity, there is an immediate first- aid relief, though: get rest, apply ice and compression.

Other types of lumps can be brought about by other conditions which need further assessment.

Types of lumps in the body

According to National Health Services UK, the following are areas where lumps can appear that are indicative of diseases and health complications:

  • Mumps – This is the swelling of the parotid glands on the side of the face, most commonly occurring among children. Patients may experience headaches, joint pain, and may have high fever for a few days.
  • Allergic reactions – A person allergic to peanuts, strawberries and seafood can develop lumps and swelling under the skin. This can be life-threatening if accompanied with difficulty in breathing.
  • Dental abscess – Bacterial infection may form on the inside of the teeth, in the gums or even in the bone structure surrounding the teeth and lead to lump and swelling on the side of the mouth. This can be accompanied by infection and fever.
  • Salivary gland stone – Chemical in the saliva can crystallize and form a stone, which causes a lump and swelling near the jaw area.
  • Swollen lymph glands – Swelling in the lymph glands often signals an infection. Once the infection is treated, the lump subsides. However, recurring lump or swelling of the lymph glands could be an indication of a more serious health condition like cancer of the lymphatic system or head and neck cancer. Such cases require a complete and thorough medical assessment.
  • Skin tags – These are wart-like, skin-colored growths that hang off the skin. It can also occur in the armpits, around the groin area, under the breasts and even on the eyelids.
  • Goiter – This is an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland which is usually caused by a lack of iodine in the diet.
  • Mastitis – This is most common among pregnant and breastfeeding women.Breast tissues become swollen and painful due to an infection.
  • Hernia – Swelling or lump occurs in the abdomen or groin area when an internal organ pushes through weak spot in a surrounding muscle that holds it in place.
  • Lumps in the testicle area – They could be due to swollen veins, build-up of fluid or some form of inflammation. However, some lumps can indicate testicular cancer.

Lumps

If you are experiencing one of these conditions, it is best to get lumps checked out for immediate relief or to get a complete diagnosis as your lump may indicate something more serious.

Lumps that can be a cause for worry

Lumps should be assessed by your doctor if they are not associated with any physical activity or if the lump and its accompanying conditions worsen. Instead of losing sleep over it, ask your doctor to perform a complete diagnosis of your lump.

Characteristics of lumps that can indicate more serious illnesses include pain and redness, swelling or growing bigger, lump is hard and doesn’t move, lump grows back after being removed, lump in the breast or testicles, and swelling in the side of the neck, armpit, or groin area that doesn’t go away.

Not all types of lumps indicate cancer. However, a lump is one of the telling signs of breast cancer, Hodgkin lymphoma and testicular cancer. These diseases can be easier to treat if patients are diagnosed and assessed early.

Hope From Within symbolizes the optimism that novel treatments like targeted therapies and immunotherapy bring to cancer patients, and promotes ongoing education on the importance of early diagnosis, having an open line of communication with doctors, and completing treatment. Initially, it encourages “Test-Talk-Take Action” against lung cancer but already expanded to include melanoma, head and neck cancer, Hodgkin lymphoma, gastric, and bladder cancers.

Learn more about cancer and how we fight it. Get early screening and know your treatment options.

A lot of things can change in a woman’s body during pregnancy, and one of the most affected if I may say is the skin.

That is why it is very timely that I got to know The Naked Fusion.

Bubble Man for a Happy Wife and a Happy Life

Truly, married life is totally different from the days when I still stay in my parents’ house. It has a lot of adjustments, and can be pretty tricky especially if you’re not really the household-chore type of girl, and when you’re allergic to almost everything!

That is why I am so lucky when my husband and I found a way to work around our roles in our little home, in preparation as well as we await our little bundle of joy!

Since I don’t cook (Disclaimer: Not that I’m too ‘maarte’, but the smoke really gets to me. I can really get sick from the allergies just by smelling fried garlic, fried rice, onions, etc.) , we were able to establish that John does the cooking, while I wash the dishes.

Now that I am answerable to our clean plates and his clean pans, I am so happy that I found Bubble Man!

IMG_20180528_115440-01.jpeg

Bubble Man is a highly efficient, economical, environmental-friendly and Philippine-made Dishwashing Liquid that promises to make cleaning easier and more fun for the entire family.

Would you believe that is three times more affordable than the market’s popular and leading brands? Growing up, I’ve been used to watching commercials showing the efficacy of such brands, and now that I am a wife, and a soon-to-be mother, I am wondering if there are other alternatives for me, especially that we have to manage the budget effectively.

IMG_20180528_115606-01.jpeg

It is good to know that upon using it, I was able to clean more dishes with just a small amount, not to mention it can easily rinse off. But for this morning, my husband was extra sweet to take the liberty to wash the dishes on my behalf. I might have overslept and abused my snooze button!

IMG_20180528_115219-01-01.jpeg

He said he loved using our new dishwashing liquid! 😀 But was a little creeped out when I started positioning the bottles and took this photo. Hehe 😛

A single drop mixed in water can already be used to clean the kitchen sink, few more drops in a water bucket can make an entire floor spotless; you can even use it to clean your car! And the best of it all, its gentle formula, can be mild enough to clean toys, milk bottles, and even my delicate make-up brushes!

I don’t even have to buy separate washing liquids for the last few items I mentioned!

I was surprised how gentle it is on my hands as well, it’s like a handsoap too! No need to put hand lotion after!

IMG_20180528_115411-01.jpeg

Bubbleman comes in three variants: Lemon, Antibac, and Kalamansi scents. The 270 ml size retails for only Php 32.50, while the 880 ml bottle retails for only Php 70.00, with special promo pack 270ml for only 55.00 while promo pack 880ml is only 130.00

You can find Bubble Man at all leading supermarket such as Puregold, Mercury Drugs, Robinson, Waltermart, Landmark, Fishermall Supermarket, METRO  and other groceries nationwide and is a proud product of Mikewell Corporation.

Mikewell Corporation is a 100% Filipino-owned company established by two Chemical Engineers in 2005, with the objective of creating house cleaning products that improve quality of life, through clean homes and a safe environment.

Be Summer-Strong and Salty-Hair-Don’t-Care with Pantene UV Rescue

A6508170

IMG_2421

It’s May, and summer isn’t over yet! That means you can still go out and have that well-deserved vacation! 🙂

I bet you’ve already allotted your vacation leaves for your next beach trip, and now while you are still preparing that bag and hoarding all the sunblock you can get for your skin, why not try and get protection for your hair too!

The intense heat from the sun can cause a lot of damage to your hair, making it brittle, dry and lifeless. Not to mention that trouble can be heightened when you have bleached hair like mine. As Philippines is a tropical country, it is no wonder that the Solar UV index is above average during this time, and can be pretty annoying when you are trying to maintain glamorous locks.

L-R: Say Tioco, Alodia Gosiengfiao, Joyce Pring, Gabbi Garcia, Jasmine Curtis Smith,
Anna Cay and Dennise Lazaro

Hair dehydration and breakage of essential protein are the common effects when you stay too long under the sun. The UV rays can be as nasty as that weighing scale when you’re on a fitness diet. Salt in the beach waters and chlorine in swimming pools can also catalyse damage to your hair. So while we strive to protect our skin from the UV, I think it’s also about time to shed some attention to our hair too, being it 3x more vulnerable to sun damage.

Oh yes, I’m being preachy because as someone who has bleached hair, and can’t get keratin treatment as of the moment, it’s so disheartening to know that a lot of girls are not weary in keeping their mane healthy and strong.

Goodie, the NEW Limited Edition Pantene UV Rescue Shampoo and 3 Minute Miracle conditioner is now here as your best partner to keep your Summer Strong with Hair Stronger Than The Sun! They can protect your hair from the sun, chlorine from swimming pool, and salt from beach water—elements that can severely damage your hair especially during the hottest season of the year.

A6508819

Pantene Philippines ambassadors looking golden for the summer at Pantene’s
#BeSummerStrong launch held last April 19 in Alta Guia, Taguig.

Can I say that their new and sunny packaging design inspired by the song, “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” is soooo adorable! I can remember singing this song as a child! 😀

The graphics team sure did have a lot of fun conceptualizing this. It definitely makes it more exciting to use! Finally a shampoo and conditioner that is just as trendy as you!

How does Pantene UV Rescue work on your hair?

IMG_2447IMG_2451

To address these summer hair aggressors, Pantene UV Rescue offers a three-phased approach to prepare your hair BEFORE contact with sun and heat stressors, shield damage DURING contact, and then repair, replenish and rehydrate hair AFTER sun exposure and contact with salt or chlorinated water.

Pantene UV Rescue shampoo with its Pro-V formula gives hair protection from root to tip. It provides optimum care that goes deep within the core of your hair, giving it the antioxidants and the hydration it needs for each strand to be strong. It is perfect with the Pantene UV Rescue 3 Minute Miracle conditioner that can repair 3 months’ worth of hair damage and infused with the power of an ampoule that can add further hydration to your hair and instantly boost its smoothness and shine.

IMG_2439

Pantene UV Rescue 3 Minute Miracle gives your hair deeper long-lasting moisture that is lightweight and without the greasy feel you hate. It is recommend to use Pantene UV Rescue 3 Minute Miracle before swimming and after. Before swim application creates a layer of protection before the hair gets in contact with salt water or chlorine, keeping hair moisturized and smooth contrary to the sticky, dry and damaged feel we get after a long day of swimming under the sun. Then of course, after swim use provides deep moisture and repair.

Via Galang PanteneIMG_2436

I just love how Pantene came up with this new product, especially with the summer season being intense and crazy! I can’t wait to enjoy the sun and the sea without worrying about hair damage!

Purchase Pantene UV Rescue shampoo in 12ml for 5 PHP, and 170ml, 340ml and 480ml for 115 PHP, 206 PHP and 285 PHP at lazada.com.ph/pantene.

Purchase Pantene UV Rescue 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner in 9ml for 5 PHP, and 180ml and 340ml for 159 PHP, and 259 PHP at lazada.com.ph/pantene.

Joining Whisper Curvalicious Movement with Nadine Lustre

Fierce, fearless and positively bold – three adjectives that perfectly define the multi-talented star Nadine Lustre as she lead the Whisper Curvalicious Coming Out Party!

Nadine Lustre for Whisper

Photo: Whisper Philippines

True to its brand promise, Whisper celebrates women empowerment and living life to the fullest with its newest #ChooseCurvalicious movement.

IMG_1315IMG_1308IMG_1340

On March 20, at Valkyrie Night Club, BGC, Nadine was electrifying as ever, as she sang and sashayed the new Whisper anthem entitled Curvalicious. I am not really a fan of her songs, but this one was so positive and groovy, it’s difficult not to like. Not to mention to absentmindedly play it over and over in your head.

Together with my gorgeous blogger friends, we gave in and furrowed with the upbeat music and energy!

IMG_1321

“I have always been about being myself and doing what I feel is right and close to my heart, ” says the singer-actress. She went about how a Whisper Curvalicious woman should not be afraid to be who she wants to be and be confident in her own skin, any day and every day.

IMG_1399

I quite agree, because, in a world where you can actually be easily persuaded and convinced that you may not be good enough, self-love is something that shouldn’t lose its fire. We are all unique, and cultivating our inner strengths makes us more beautiful, and totally real.

I appreciate how smart and steadfast Nadine is despite her critics and naysayers. She is positively bold, no doubt about, that but I guess being a modern woman entails you to know yourself, your abilities, and how you can use these to benefit and inspire others.

Nadine Lustre 1

Being the face of Curvalicious Movement is such an honor for Nadine, she is happy that she can share the mindset of empowering women, and rising above all challenges no matter how treacherous they may be. She is confident that women will be more thriving, and ecstatic in sharing the ideals of a modern millennial woman in being a blessing to those around her.

IMG_1363IMG_1370IMG_1371

The new Whisper still features its cottony soft cover and dermacare lotion, 12-hour leakage protection and anti-leak barriers for a completely worry-free period. Now, made better!

It ensures a more snug fit with its own curvalicious feature too! The amazing feminine pad upgrade is absolutely perfect for modern women like you, me, and Nadine, who need to stay confident, cool and yes – #Curvalicious!

IMG_1381

My period may be gone for some months now and is not trying to return anytime soon, I am still grateful to be part of this movement and share these with you my dear merfriends! (Can you check my baby bump already?) 😀

Together with Whisper, women can join and be a part of the Curvalicious Movement:

A celebration of the modern woman who is brave, daring, and ever inspiring! A woman that strives for power and greatness to let her fellow women achieve the same!

A First-Time-Mom’s Prenatal Care and Lactation Class at HealthFirst Clinic

The funny thing about time is that you cannot stop it. It just goes on and on, and sometimes it doesn’t warn you that life isn’t the same way again.

You have been part of my journey as a blogger for the past two years, and I cannot thank you enough for sticking with me till today.

As adulting takes its course in my life, I am happy to welcome, write, document and share these changes as they unfold to teach me lessons that are bound to be beneficial in one way or another. And I also hope that with the virtual pages of this humble blog, you also get to learn a thing or two.

As you all know, I just dropped the biggest surprise of my life in my previous post, and while this is something I am extremely happy about, I know I need all the help I can get to prepare for this – motherhood.

Golly, I miss my Mom.

IMG_0647-01.jpeg

Last weekend, I had the most joyous opportunity of going to the Free Lecture on Prenatal Care and Lactation with Dr. Madrigal-Dy; hosted by HealthFirst Clinic.

Facade

Together with first-time moms, I was introduced to the routine check-ups and the things we need to observe as expectant mothers. I must say it feels different for me but in the most exciting way.

I used to study maternal and child care way back in my nursing classes as an upcoming health professional, but this time it was my turn to become the patient and be very responsible about my condition.

I appreciate how Dr. Dy explained prenatal care in a very patient-centered way that I felt empowered in taking charge of my pregnancy. I believe the experience will be more taken care of and enjoyed if the mother is well-informed about the things that can promote a healthy gestation.

IMG_0615

I am even wondering if my mother ever had classes like this. I mean, she’s an Economics Major, and there was no Youtube before, how do you become a mom? A good mom.

While I understand that you have to be very patient and willing in caring for your newborn, I guess it will really take a lot of strength and good health in maintaining your good relationship with your little one, which is why breastfeeding is also very important.

IMG_0620

Lactation was also highlighted during the talk, and I realized that moms can be different from each other, same way how our breasts respond to the needs of each baby. So I’m really hoping I get to feed my little one just enough. OMG!

After the lecture, I felt more assured and informed about what things I need to consider and not miss as I progress in my pregnancy. And I can’t believe I got to learn about these for free!

Ultrasound Room

Ultrasound Facility

Can you also believe that they have much lower rates in terms of their diagnostic services than most hospitals? For one, their Transvaginal and Pelvic Ultrasound only costs P1,260 each.

How I wish I found them sooner! :O

So if you’re an expectant mom like me, be sure to know about HealthFirst’s upcoming lectures. They are surely bound to help you in your journey as a walking miracle carrying another miracle!

HealthFirst Clinic Women’s Health Center is the modern Moms’ one-stop shop clinic partner. And can you believe that they are just in the hearts of most commercial and business districts! Talk about not having to worry how far does it have to take to visit! 🙂

Skin Philosophie by Dr. Kyla Talens

As a millennial Filipina, I suppose you would agree that maintaining good physical image in today’s society is crucial. You have every tool and application at hand that can possibly turn our photos from ordinary to something extra wonderful.

As a blogger, things have changed quite a bit for me. When I was still working, I have this constant notion to keep myself well-groomed at all times to serve as a good example to my trainees. But right now, things had to go up a notch.

For some reason, I never had the time to go to skin clinics, not because I was too busy, but because I thought I was doing okay. I mean, I use a fair number of beauty products, so maybe I was trying enough to take good care of myself, but when I got invited to Skin Philosophie’s event, I realized maybe I should try to consider paying a visit soon.

It’s not really because of vanity, but I guess there can be services that you thought you don’t need but you actually do. For example, eye rejuvenation. I never thought that my simple and random late night activities could cause my eyebags to look really bad.

I am not getting any younger, so investing on my skin and my health should probably be lifted to my top 5 priorities now.

I am so happy that I got to know Skin Philosophie and the brain behind this medical aesthetic and lifestyle solution center.

Dr. Kyla Talens, M.D., DCD, MSc

Dr. Kyla Talens, M.D., DCD, MSc who was celebrating her birthday that day is the CEO and the Chief Aesthetic Dermatologist of Skin Philosophie. Her main interest was aesthetic medicine, specifically skin and laser treatments.

She earned her degree and education from University of the Philippines, Cardiff University in the United Kingdom and Ramathibodi Hospital – Mahidol University, Thailand.

She said that she also incorporates her creative and artistic inclination into her practice. She emphasizes that, “It is of paramount importance for a doctor to have a keen eye for symmetry and proportion so that results look natural after procedures.” And I couldn’t agree more!

I had the best time discovering how Skin Philosophie can help me in my skin problems, which is why I cannot wait to have my own treatment very soon.

Boutique Clinic Concept

The services and facilities are all comfortably placed in a luxurious boutique clinic. I can’t help but admire the casual yet elegant atmosphere. The clinic firmly believes that they want to make their patients feel at ease as they undergo a very positive change in their lives.

Their portfolio of services include, scar repair, age-proofing, age reversing, acne solutions, body contouring with fat reduction, face sculpting, laser treatments, whitening, therapeutic massages, non-surgical procedures, dermal filler injections, face and body art and many more!

Affordable Luxury on Skin Care and Services

The place and location could be a little intimidating, no doubt about that. But the best news is that, while their treatment costs are not exactly that low, they are not abusively high. After all, overly cheap things cannot be trusted.

The smart patients put premium on the value of money. And it is also important to invest in one’s physical image, but there should be enough left for other finer and more significant things in life. After all, we should always spend wisely.

3 Things Why Foot for the gods is Not Like Your Ordinary Spa

I have been meaning to get a massage ever since I got back from my trip, and I was just too busy to find time! Goodie, I had a free day and took this chance to get my much-needed reflexology! Yay! 🙂

It was my second time at Foot for the gods, and I have always loved how different they are from other spas. They are not your ordinary massage salon, so read more to find out why you need to schedule your appointment today. 🙂

  1. Unconventional Set-Up

First is, they do not have cubicles. You get to enjoy your well-deserved pampering while having the freedom of talking to your friends. It would also be a perfect date idea, and you can hold hands with your beau while your masseurs are massaging your oh-so-tired feet.

Although, if I may advise to keep your voices at a minimum, since there are also other clients in the room. And you may need a flash when you want to take a selfie, because the whole massage common room is on dim light.

  1. More acupressure, and less kneading

I think it’s the Foot for the gods’ exceptional service that’s why people keep coming back. They have such an effective method in relieving stress and tensed muscles.

I was surprised how exact the pressure application was. Their style leans more on acupressure than kneading, which was very odd for me at first, considering it was a dry massage, but I was totally sold on how I felt after.

I didn’t expect my muscles were too overwrought from all the activities I did the past weeks! Gosh!

  1. Specialty Spa Products

Honestly, I like the opportunity of being able to bring home something that can sustain the service, or for this matter relaxation, that I have experienced from the home establishment.

Foot for the gods’ actually has their own perfume and spa product lines. You can avail Scent by the gods, and Muscle Pain Relief Spray when you ask their staff, which come in really affordable prices!

I highly recommend you try and visit them as soon as possible to experience a whole new meaning on stress relieving. Thank me after my merfriends! 😀

You can visit them at the following branches:

SM Megamall   |   SM Mall of Asia   |   SM South Mall   |   Main Square, Bacoor Cavite

See you there soon? 😀

My Korean Facial Therapy Experience at O2 Laser Skin Center

Annyeong!

I have always admired Koreans’ skin. They are poreless, youthful, and undoubtedly flawless! 🙂

It is no wonder that most of the skincare products I use are made from their country. And Korean skin clinics and salons have already established themselves as a credible skincare and beauty provider.

That is why I was soooo stoked when I was invited to try O2 Korean Facial Therapy! 😀

IMG_20170718_122345IMG_20170718_123017IMG_20170718_123011

Their signature facial is a therapeutic treatment formulated to deeply cleanse, rejuvenate and hydrate leaving you a more radiant and revitalized skin.

This 90 minutes facial therapy comes with a relaxing and firming face and shoulder massage which reinvigorates the skin and relieves stress.

Perfect for people who want to be refreshed and relaxed at the same time, just like me!

This should be exciting because the last facial treatment I had was almost 7 years ago! Haha 😛 I was just so scared that these treatments will cause more damage than good! But my braveheart and beauty instinct told me that this is something I shouldn’t miss!

So here are the things you should expect when you have your O2 Korean Facial Therapy:

1st Step: Cleanse.

Cleansing the face with their Cleansing Milk and Cleansing Gel. This step will involve removal of makeup (if patient has any on) and dirt from the environment.

2nd Step: Scrubber.

Using a machine, they will scrub off deep seated dirt for a more thorough cleansing.

IMG_20170718_154317

3rd Step: Ultrasonic.

Using a special gel, a flat device emitting heat is made to go around the whole face. This helps open and soften the pores to prepare it for extraction.

I was so used with overhead steam in opening pores to allow impurities’ extraction. so this was new to me. Or am I too outdated already after my 7-year hiatus from facial treatments?

Nevertheless, I was advised that the ultrasonic machine is more upscale and healthier for the skin!

4th Step: Extraction/Pricking of Whiteheads, Blackheads, Pimples.

Now, this is the one I was dreading! As I made my way to the clinic, I was so oblivious that this is part of what’s going to happen to me that day!

I mean, I had facials before but I was only thinking that today’s treatment was more of like a cream-spreading activity only, and no pricking!

I was a bit anxious because a friend actually had a bad experience with one skin salon, and I don’t want my skin to have accidental dents like she had!

Surprisingly, they weren’t that painful! And I didn’t shed a tear! My facial therapist was really good, and she’s very careful and strategizes effectively to ease the pain whenever she attempts to stick the needle!

IMG_20170718_131246

5th Step: Destressing.

This is done through a relaxing face, shoulder and back massage using their special Korean massage oil for 10-15 minutes.

I know, this is a skin care salon, but you have to give them additional brownie points for giving a rejuvenating massage! As in, super narelax talaga ako!

I know I was drifting to sleep already!

IMG_20170718_131442

6th Step: Antioxidant Infusion.

Using another machine, they infused a high-end Vitamin C from Korea which helps lighten the skin as well as slow down the aging process. In this treatment, you will feel a mild stinging sensation, especially in the bony areas. This is the machine infusing the Vitamin C inside your skin.

IMG_20170718_134553

I felt the tinge and electrifying sensation, but nothing to worry! It was too mild, you’ll only feel a tickle!

7th Step: Calming and Anti aging.

Cold Collagen mask is applied and left on the face for 10-15 minutes. This is another anti-aging procedure and the cool sensation of the mask will help reduce the redness from the extraction done prior.

IMG_20170718_135521

I know, I look like a mummy! Haha 😀 But as claustrophobic it may seem, it is my favorite part! I can really feel the rich mask seeping down my skin to make it look healthier and more radiant!

8th Step: Removal of mask and application of Moisturizer and Sun protection Korean creams.

This procedure settled everything, and I was happy they already put sunblock, because I will be going to another event after.

A nice selfie with Dr. Cherry Ann Co, the Resident Dermatologist sealed this great deal! I even had the most opportune moment to consult her about my skin dilemmas! Thank you so much for being gracious and patient with my questions! 😀

IMG_20170718_142747

I’ve been trying their Cleansing Milk, Moisturizing Toner and Sunblock for almost a month now! 🙂 And my skin feels more youthful everyday! 😀

This beautiful change is a kickstart into my journey of achieving a smoother, healthier and more radiant skin!

I will definitely come back for my next session! 🙂 Can you believe that this amazing treatment only costs P1,200? It’s super sulit, and totally worth it! No need for you to fly to Korea just to experience Korean skin care! 🙂
