Creating Mermaid Island: How I Went from Being Jobless to Becoming My Own Boss in Just One Year

Me: “Babe, gusto kong gumawa ng sariling cosmetic and skincare line.”

Babe: “Anong unique sa gagawin mo?”

Me: “Natural and organic ingredients.”

Babe: “Meron ng ganyan. Ano pa ang difference mo sa mga existing brands?”

Me: “<Thinks deeply..> Hmm.. MERMAID?!”

This was our conversation way back in September 2017.

You see, life after work wasn’t easy. I thought I had a plan, but my plans weren’t working so well for me after I resigned.

I left my fancy and glorious corporate job (that I love very much by the way) after working there for five years last March 2017.

My Mom just passed away, our family business has been teetering on the brink of closing down, I have no savings, and it felt as if my life is falling apart.

It was the lowest point of my life, and I still have to keep things altogether.

I mustered all my guts to work on my shoe brand, Versaheel.

It’s the second brand I’ve put up after my now defunct brand Pomppet, which I started back in college.

I had a new concept, new strategies, a business partner, new connections, new everything. But after months of working on my designs, and learning the craft, for some reason, I still can’t manage to increase my sales.

I invested so much, I lost so much too.

One September night, I stumbled upon an episode of “My Puhunan”. It’s a show that features success stories of businesses, focusing on how they were able to scale up from such a small capital.

I got so inspired by the mother-daughter tandem – the team behind the featured local cosmetic and skincare brand.

It got me thinking on the possibility of creating my own too. Honestly, I was a bit apprehensive to share it to my then-fiance, now-husband.

Who am I to create another pitch, when I haven’t gained anything yet from my current brand.

Sure, the brand and marketing are amazing, but at the end of the day, numbers speak. And these, I don’t have.

Hence, the conversation atop this blog.

And after saying, “Mermaid!” he replied

“Hindi sapat yon!”

So, I shrugged the idea off, anyway I was planning our civil wedding back then. It ought to keep me distracted from the rejection and frustration of the brand, not generating sales.

Come 2018, shortly after our wedding, I found out I was pregnant!

My mind suddenly went into frenzy. I thought about getting back to work again, because I knew I have to contribute to our expenses.

John and I are starting a family, and we have to prepare for birth, and of course me, on finding a way on how to always be physically present, since I wanted and decided to breastfeed.

I needed a job at home. Or rather, I need to be able to earn while at home.

Since I cannot go to the shoe factory all the time, given by my delicate condition. As I was usually left all alone in the condominium, it gave me a lot of time to think on what I should do.

I applied as a home-based English teacher. I got into the first screening, but I failed my phone practical test. My proctor said I was a bit bossy and a little aggressive for an online tutor.

Haha That IS me, right there! Trained more than 15,000 Real Estate Agents, what does she expect? 😀

And then Mermaid Island, the idea I was exploring back in 2017 dawned on me again.

I talked to John, and he said,

“Hindi mo gagawin yan Babe. Tatamarin ka lang. Andami ng makeup sa market. Masasayang lang pera mo.”

But I was so determined, I secretly enrolled myself to a course behind his back. I even had to borrow money from my sister!

The more he said I can’t do it, the more I wanted to do it. I want to prove him wrong, or rather I want to prove to myself that I can make a brand work.

Creating Mermaid Island was also not easy for me as a blogger. I knew that when I create my own line, I have to say goodbye to some cosmetics and skin care sponsorships.

It made me hesitate, but I was inspired by Anne Curtis’ BLK Cosmetics and Vice Ganda’s Vice Cosmetics.

Their celebrity statuses are a big leverage for them, and I admire how they focused on creating their own lines, not minding the possibilities of endorsement opportunities from other more well-known brands.

I have to make this big step. For my son, for our family, and of course for myself.

I started with one product alone. After selling my ONLY 60 pieces of stocks in just a day, I reinvested them again to more raw materials.

I didn’t even blink on the thought of spending a centavo on a celebratory gift for myself. All profit goes back to the business. I have to make it grow.

Instead of focusing on marketing in the early stage of the business, I focused on product development. I learned that you don’t have to sell a product, when a product can already sell itself in the first place.

Ultimately, you have to create a product that sells.

I had so many inhibitions in Versaheel, so with Mermaid Island, I was not afraid to be risky. I have already lost so much, how much more can I lose?

In terms of ideas, I was also very raunchy.

Mermaid Island should not just be any other brand. I took the lessons I learned from working in the Marketing Department, and applied them here.

From the concept, graphics ,to the names, to its voice, and even its font styles should communicate the vision I have in mind.

It was a one-man team, sometimes two, when John was not busy with work.

I did a lot of trials before perfecting formulations.

Sometimes I cannot repeat the same shade because I lack equipment and appropriate measuring devices. There were a lot of wasted raw materials and containers too.

It was pretty messy and colorful at the same time. I remembered staining my clothes and the floor. Sometimes, it was difficult for me to reach the oven to heat the waxes because my tummy was already big at 6 months.

I also replaced defective products, because you know, reputation means a lot especially when you’re just starting out.

I can recall that I am measuring my success by my ability to refill my box of raw materials. I once had them in a small PR box I got from a sponsor.

Fast forward to today, I have a whole room full of waxes, oils, extracts and actives, etc.

I have my staff who helps me with production. From the little table I once had, we now have a laboratory. We also have physical stores now, and upcoming bazaars.

I can’t believe these all just started last year. What mermazing journey it has been!

See, everything just comes to fruition when you dedicate your time, effort, and skills to a dream, and of course lots and lots of good marketing strategies. Which I think will come by experience.

A keen eye and humility to discern and admit that there can be room for growth wouldn’t hurt either.

After all, everything starts with a good idea. It’s your call whether you want your good to stay good, or to be great.

PS.

Just finished our first Trendsetter’s Bazaar last weekend!

So excited for our next this coming September 27 to 29, at SM Megamall Megatrade Hall C.

Sea you!

Your Mermaid Miss,

Oh, Organic! – The Sweetest and Safest Way to Hair-Free Skin

Two-months into postpartum, I can say that my body is slowly getting back to its pre-pregnancy state, and I’m trying to get all the help I need.

When it comes to unwanted hair, I only go for the natural and organic.

Hey Sugar 2

You’ve probably already heard of sugar waxing. You’ve heard that it’s an organic process that uses deliciously natural ingredients administered by expert aestheticians. The whole process involves removing unwanted hair while exfoliating your skin. The end result is smooth, soft, glowing skin.
It’s all true.

Hey Sugar
The ingredients used in sugaring are all natural—and by all-natural, we mean ingredients that you could actually eat. This means it’s perfect for sensitive skin. You don’t have to worry about strange additives or weird unpronounceable ingredients.

IMG_20180326_083205-02.jpeg

The process also involves a thorough exfoliation after removing unwanted hair, which is critical to the entire process because it will help prevent ingrown hairs, and make sure that the whole process is pain-free.

received_269015343897268.jpeg

All things considered, it’s almost impossible to imagine you’d go with any other grooming
method.

Hey Sugar 3

I am so happy we have better options in keeping our bodies and our skin healthier and more beautiful!

Hello Kitty Then and Now: From a Child’s Toy to a Lady’s Best Friend

I am 29 years old, married to a beautiful man, and pregnant to a sweet baby boy (his kicks always try to reach my hand whenever I absent-mindedly touch my belly, take note, I’m not even pressing on my bump), and I am still a big fanatic of Hello Kitty.

2018-07-09 03.54.35 1.jpg

I remember buying sooo many Hello Kitty items when I was younger. I usually get the pink ones, while my little sister gets the blue versions. I spent most of my childhood in different cities in the Philippines because of my dad’s work, and we stayed in Butuan City in Mindanao the longest – 6 years.

I recall that there were no malls back then, and I was pretty appalled. Haha 😀

People who are close to me know how “maarte” I can get.

In Butuan, there was probably only one store that sells nice girly things. It’s just a little boutique in the center of the city, and naturally, you wouldn’t be surprised to know that most of the little girls drag their moms there to buy them whatever. The stocks are very limited too, so when you get a pretty item, you suddenly become a star in your class.

I can say my sister and I were two of the hoarders, and my mom was extra-giving too, so lucky us! 😀

Recently though, I came upon a new brand of sanitary pads that illustrates the face of Hello Kitty – Softex. My 10-year-old self would’ve been so excited to get her period I guess.

2018-07-09 03.48.14 1.jpg

Softex is based in Indonesia, and that will explain some of the foreign words you can see in their packaging.

I got curious so I immediately tried their pantyliners.

I was kind of giddy because normally I only get 20 liners in one packet, but theirs have 5 more! 😀

2018-07-09 03.47.16 1.jpg

I love how ultra-thin it is, given how the liner contour fits perfectly. My thighs have decided they want to go extra meaty to support my baby weight, hence my concern for feeling uncomfortable in trying new pads. I am quite happy that Softex pantyliners did not disappoint. 🙂

2018-07-09 03.51.34 1.jpg

They also come in Comfort Slim pads that you can use during your red days, no matter how heavy the flow is.

The interior has a pillow-like feel for extra comfort, with breathable layer and has a 1-second absorption rate! 🙂

Softex Comfort Slim pads utilize SILKTOUCH Surface Technology with BICOMPONENT fiber that combines super-soft fiber with a strong inner fiber that has a 2mm thickness that you’ll barely feel. The housed in an aluminized packaging with an open/close sticker are also incorporated in the design package to ensure utmost cleanliness.

2018-07-09 03.51.21 1.jpg

You can also try their Comfort Slim Long pads specially made for heavy flows and night-time. The wide backguard ensures you don’t leak and stain the sheets, and helps you achieve that good sleep and sweet dreams!

The innovative pack of extra long, ultra-thin, hypoallergenic pads is the lady-down-there’s new best friend!

I’m giving birth next month, and these pads will sit on the dresser waiting for me to use them soon! 🙂

You can buy them in the following stores:  Puregold, select branches of SM Health&Beauty sections, Watsons, Robinsons, Waltermart, Ministop, Shopee, Lazada, BeautyMNL

7 Times I Felt Fearless, Fierce and Playfully Bold (Some Secrets Revealed!)

Have you ever had that moment when the world agrees that you are weak, obsolete, and someone who cannot do anything better with her life?

If your answer is yes, same here! 😀

Everybody has those periods of weaknesses, but it doesn’t matter how many times you felt betrayed, disappointed, hurt – all that matters is that you were able to rise up, and be a phoenix from those ashes.

Let me share something personal today because I’m feeling sentimental and extra motivating. Haha 😀 Because nothing is sweeter and worth-reading that those inspiring stories that let you reflect on your own to do something that will yield growth for the next 24 hours.

On Family and Friends

  1. I am a registered nurse, and obviously, I didn’t pick my course, but I had to do it because that’s what my Dad wants. I had to be a good daughter, and I know he just wants the best for me. After graduation, and passing the boards, I knew I had to do something with my life, and that doesn’t include using my PRC license.

nurse

My Dad and I had a discussion, a long and gruesome one. He wanted me to join the family business if I don’t intend to work in a hospital. I was so thirsty with the life outside of school, so I made my stand. I said I want to work and experience how it is like to be part of an organization that does not involve any assistance or connection from my parents. I want to know if I am cut for a job, just by being me.

And so, I got hired and became an SEO Copywriter! No assistance, no connections. License not needed. Just me, and whatever I have in this frail little body.

  1. Sometimes, it really takes a whole lot of courage to be honest with a friend, especially if you think that the truth might hurt them. I once had an experience with a friend who wants to change her life and attract a mate but didn’t know where to start. I had to tell her that she needs to love and take good care of herself, to invite wealthy situations and wonderful people in her life.

Golly, I was so cautious to pick the right words so I wouldn’t have to hurt her feelings, especially when I told her she needed a makeover. But that’s something I am not regretting, because she was able to change her disposition towards herself, and that’s quite enough for me.

On Career

  1. I took 3 board exams. The Nursing Licensure Exam, which I passed. The Real Estate Broker Exam, which I passed, again. And the Real Estate Appraiser Exam, which I failed.

I have never felt such a failure in my entire life. I have always been accustomed to winning, to getting what I want, and not anticipating anything might go wrong. As for my plans for the 3rd exam, I got a taste of something I never even planned of cooking.

My boss back then told me, that I don’t have to prove anything, as far as career is concerned. I am good at what I’m doing, and a failed attempt for a third license is not going to diminish my value as a professional and as a person.

Via Galang 5

I soon realized that failures are just disguised blessings, because fate and Someone Up There has their way of giving you something more, something you deserve, and something that’s going to weigh more than the other failed plans you even bothered conjuring.

After that, I became a Shoe Designer and a Public Speaker. Not bad, don’t you think?

  1. I was too shy to raise concerns about my needs and directions as a professional, thinking that I may be regarded as too ambitious or too demanding. But after months of contemplating and reflecting, I was able to finally find the nerve and the bravery to speak up.

I filed my resignation. And soon started a career on freelance, and put up my own business.

IMG_20170914_160656-01

IMG_20170914_160732-01

I knew the career path I wanted to take, and I am thankful I found the guts to follow it; knowing that my dreams will not be handed to me, I have to get them myself.

On Love

  1. It’s funny how some people advise you that no one goes away from someone who is tall, fair, beautiful, rich, an heir to a business empire, etc. But nobody tells you that it’s also okay to let go when you think the relationship is going nowhere.

How is that even possible? I once had this perfect guy, and he was all sweet and nice, and gentlemanly, and everything you can think of your ideal prince charming. Only that, he was not customized for me. He was a generic Ken doll, and  I’m a specialized Barbie.

It took me almost a year to realize that, and muster the sanity that I have to get out of that relationship. I was kidding myself that maybe I was too “maarte” or too choosy. He was indeed a perfect guy, but not the perfect One for me.

So I guess do not be afraid of walking out on the love that you think you don’t deserve.

  1. I’d like to use this part on how I met my husband. I was definitely the epitome of fearless, fierce and exceptionally bold. I met him on Christmas of 2015 in a club in BGC.

John+Via-429_preview.jpeg

He was like a shiny new toy. Chinito, may braces, makinis, rosy lips, very Oppa! Someone I think will not even give me a second look. We chatted for a while, maybe around 45 minutes tops, and then my tita friends said we had to go home.

It was 3AM! But I was so engrossed in his personality and our conversation, that I asked them (my friends) for an extra 15 minutes. But my girl buddies were on haste. So I had to decide if I should go home or not.

FB_IMG_1513781005237.jpg

FB_IMG_1514453335642.jpg

John+Via Wedding-318_preview.jpeg

In about 2 seconds in my mind I was thinking like: If I go home, I will always wonder what will have been had I stayed? But if I stay, I will find out. After all, you only live once. And it’s just one adventurous night, that I can tell my future grandkids!

Yes, for 2 seconds!

So I said, “I’ll stay! For 30minutes. Then I’ll leave, promise!”

Haha 😀 At the back of my head, I was taking a chance. On a total stranger! That I just met that night! Allowing myself to have 30 minutes of a chance at a possible boyfriend, or friend, or connection. Haha 😀 Assuming!

John+Via Wedding-333_preview.jpeg

If I knew I was staying for a chance at love, marriage, and for the rest of my life, I could have dropped that 30-minute detail in my disclaimer! Haha 😀

You can imagine my friends’ reactions when I told them I’m choosing to stay. Haha :p

So the lesson is, take risks! But choose them wisely! 😀

On Life

  1. The most difficult downfall I ever had was to witness my mother pass away from the life as we know it.

You can never prepare enough for a death of a loved one, especially with someone who was entirely essential to make you alive for your first 9 months of life.

She was my hero – my biggest influence. I still get teary when I talk and write about her. I feel so honored to be her daughter, to be her extension, to be her legacy.

IMG_20180521_162113.JPG

FB_IMG_1526891154687.jpg

viamom3

There is no forgetting, you may just get used to the pain, in that small hollow part in your heart. I may have moved on, but her memory will always flourish, and the fact that she has shared her strength, her wisdom, her talent, her passion, her love, her life to me is what’s going to making me fearless, fierce, and playfully bold for the rest of my years until I see her again.

And that my merfriend is how you own life, be unabashedly beautiful, confident, unfazed by nothing, and empowered from within.

Looking and Feeling Fine As I Reach 29

In less than 2 months, I’m turning 29. OMG!

I can’t believe I’m finally graduating my twenties and reaching the 30 mark very soon!

But since aging is inevitable, it doesn’t mean you can’t do anything that’ll help make you look a lot lesser than your published age.

And that’s what I did! 😀

I tried using Novuskin Lift to test and experience its anti-aging abilities.

It has Marine Fish Collagen, Grape Seed Extract, and L-Glutathione. It’s a food supplement so you need not worry about overdosing.

During the 3-month period, I have observed a lot of changes in my body, and I would like to share them in this post.

  1. HAIR

Can I just say that this is my number one concern among all of the following body changes? Since my hair was bleached a couple of times last year, it took some toll on my roots, that they became weaker.

IMG_20170708_131231

IMG_20170708_132122

Hairfall was suddenly a constant thing, which was why I am extra careful in combing my hair, especially after a shower.

BEFORE

IMG_20180222_102843.jpg

Wet bleached hair is the most difficult to style and handle, because any minute, you might go bald and sport a hairless patch on your scalp.

AFTER

IMG_20180222_103112.jpg

But as I was taking Novuskin Lift, I observed my hair fall was getting lesser and lesser that I became braver to comb my hair after a shower. This was such a relief.

  1. SKIN

Since late last year was pretty much spent on wedding planning, I hardly had time to go to skin clinics that I sooner developed breakouts, but using this product helped my pimples dry and heal faster. Plus, I hardly had breakouts after.

BEFORE

IMG_20180222_104706.JPG

Even though I spent sleepless nights crafting some wedding props, my under eyes weren’t as dark as they usually did post-“puyat”.

I also noticed that my arms and legs felt smoother and softer, despite not being so religious in applying moisturizers and lotion.

AFTER

IMG_20171217_115532.jpg

Having good skin is always a good alternative to makeup!

  1. ENERGY and APPETITE

I always had a low appetite especially during college, and you could say that this is a major reason why I never hit the normal weight.

To my surprise, I had more vigor in terms of eating, and I think this helped me look healthier. Not to mention, I was also able to fit better in my chosen wedding gown.

John+Via Wedding-345_preview.jpeg

And even though I lacked sleep, I was still able to function well the next day. It was as though I never run out of battery., which I believe is a good thing.

I can’t believe these changes just by taking Novuskin Lift.

IMG_20180220_171547.jpg

I am very happy to announce that these tablets do not just make you beautiful but healthier even! A perfect companion of course with a healthy diet and lots of exercise!

Happy and healthy ladies are always beautiful!

Novuskin Lift for the Perfect Bride

It’s been 2 months since our civil wedding, and I am still on a high. I really wanted to write about my supplier reviews but I can’t just find the time. 😀

FB_IMG_1517071124943.jpg

Goodie, today was an exception, and finally, I can share one beauty secret I haven’t included with my recent post about the Bride Beauty Guide.

You see wedding preps are extremely stressful, especially if you’re totally hands-on and don’t want to rely on wedding planners. As for me, I wanted to supervise everything and of course, cost-cut. 😀

It was also very timely that I started taking Novuskin Lift. I never knew this would help me keep my skin smoother and softer.

IMG_20171203_151802.jpg

Normally, I break out a lot when I sleep really late or when I pull all-nighters, but when I started taking these tablets, I was surprised that I haven’t developed my expected zits.

Not that I’m complaining, but this just goes to show how much this product aided me to look my best on the most important day of my life.

I was glowing, and a happy bride! At least my skin was one less of my worries, and I’m super grateful.

My makeup artist even applauded me for my skin, because she said that I’m giving her an easy job in prepping my face. 😀

So I guess, it’s what you call perfect timing!

IMG_20171220_131848.jpg

I’m so glad I was already in my 2nd month in taking Novuskin Lift, and that surely gave me that extra punch of a glow!

Luminous White 4D and How It Can Erase Your Dark Past

Even the very dark ones!

Hello merfriends! Please don’t be baffled by the title! I am referring to tattoos and dark spots here because I just found the answer to your prayers!

While we can’t do anything to upturn life’s darkest moments, we can sure maximize this awesome innovation by treating the leftover scars and unwanted physical memoirs!

A week ago I happen to attend Clara International Skin and Body’s Grand Launch for a new service that’s bound to elevate the standards of skin care.

IMG_0596

IMG_0587

I was quite shocked how near it was to our place. 😀

I have tried different skin clinics and aesthetic centres but what impressed me so much about Clara is that apart from offering cutting-edge skin care services, they are also known to offer natural whitening treatments! They have placed great emphasis in utilizing all-natural product resources to ensure safe, effective and amazing results!

IMG_0585

Today though we were introduced to the new technology from Slovenia called – Luminous White 4D.

It has the ability to remove all common pigmented lesions and a wide array of tattoo colors.

Since I don’t have any tattoos, I will definitely benefit from this by having my acne scars and dark spots treated. Not to mention the pesky little wounds I earned from clumsiness. Hehe :p

How does it work?

IMG_0606

The laser delivers an intense beam of light that is absorbed by skin pigments (melanin) only. Melanin is destroyed, but the surrounding skin tissues are left unharmed. Unlike topical creams, laser energy can seep deeper into the skin, hence being able to target strong pigmentations.

Additional benefits?

IMG_0609

This treatment will definitely tighten skin, and provide over-all rejuvenation. The laser energy may stimulate collagen production and remodelling that will improve skin elasticity. It may also reduce pore size (yay!) and permanently decrease fine hairs.

Is it painful for tattoo laser removal?

IMG_0607

You may feel a mild discomfort as it mimics the sensation brought about by a hot pin repeatedly pricking the skin. Although many reported that it is more tolerable than the tattooing procedure itself. Black tattoo pigments absorb more laser energy that is why it is easiest to treat. Generally, you may need 5 to 10 sessions to remove black tattoos, but more treatment sessions may be needed for more complex colored tattoos.

Any side-effects?

IMG_0594

Contrary to popular belief that laser treatments cause thinning of the skin, this skin technique does not.  It may sometimes elicit temporary mild redness and dryness, but these are natural skin reactions to heat and are normal.

Actually, it even improves skin elasticity as it induces collagen synthesis, leading to dermal layer thickness and skin collagen fiber density.

Things to do after treatment?

You may have to avoid the sun for a month, and use sunscreen of at least SPF25. Occasionally, the treated skin may feel dry, so do not skip moisturizer to soothe your skin.

7-Days to Forever:  Bride-to-Be Beauty Guide before the Wedding

Hi merfriends!

I know, I know! I was sooooo MIA the past month, and I’ve been really busy taking some time settling into married life. I don’t want to say adjust, because I am pretty comfortable with everybody in my new life right now, so that’s a wonderful bonus!

Now, with all the time that I’m gone, I believe I have quite left some piled blogwork to do. And since I’m still under the wedding high, expect to read tying-the-knot-kind of posts. Bear with me! Hehe :p Consider this an advance preview on what’s to come once it’s your turn to walk down the aisle!

Now with all the preparations and meetings and DIYs you have to make, it’s a little inevitable to feel stressed and rattled about the whole thing. And for me, mine took its toll when I developed some unwanted zits on my face. 😦

Not to mention I had to do last-minute beauty trips to the salon the night before my wedding!

So here are some of my tips to enjoy a beauty-blunder free self and ensure that beauty glow on your big day.

7 Days Before

Be religious in your skin care regimen. Do not be lazy in washing and moisturizing your face. I have tried Bellisima Egg White Skin Whitening Beauty Soap and it worked wonders for me.

IMG_0049

It egg-citingly whitens and lightens skin. It removes dead skin cells and gives an immediate glow. This sweet egg-shaped beauty soap tightens skin, lifts face without redness, and helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

IMG_0051

And it doesn’t hurt how fragrant it smelled! 😀 It also helped me dry up my pimples. I really noticed how soft my face turned after using it for a week.

You can see my little pimple lump on the right. It used to be bigger and more alive days before. Goodie this soap helped me tame it, and look dormant for my big day.

It’s the perfect beauty soap for a bride-to-be! And you can also Bellisima Egg White both for face and body. 🙂

6 Days Before

Decide your hairstyle and color. I realized that going out of the house to personally attend a beauty matter needs to be addressed first than those you can just do at home.

Since I had 3 bleaches already for 2017, and my then-fiance missed my brown hair, I decided to have an ombre. I picked a brown hue to mask my black roots and to do away with the bleaching and let my hair and scalp rest.

I totally felt like my old and current self, rolled into one – my old and new haircolor, together. 😀

5 Days Before

Exercise and run just to get the jitters out, and to detoxify. I personally haven’t done this because I was busy doing a lot of DIYs, but if I could do it all over again (or maybe I can, on our church wedding next year) I definitely would.

Or you could go to a spa instead. It’s nice to de-stress and rejuvenate. Your muscles are craving for that much awaiting massage and it’s going to be good for your circulation. And while you’re at it, it wouldn’t hurt to also avail a lavender or strawberry-flavored body scrub.

4 Days Before

This is something I haven’t done, but would definitely want to if time permitted or if I am not wearing my braces. You could go and have your teeth whitened for that beaming mega-watt smile that’s perfect for your wedding photos, and of course for your groom, – and guests. Haha 😀

I have seen so many prices offered by dental clinics and sessions can range from 7,000 to 21,000, depending on required sessions.

So go to your dentist and ask for this service. I would personally do this once my metal babies come off. Hopefully by 2019! 😀

3 Days Before

Get your underarms waxed. And whatever part you need to wax or threaded, just like your eyebrows. It’s another trip to the salon that you need to fulfil being the righteous and responsible bride you are. 😉

2 Days Before

Last trip to the salon, or you could just do this at the comforts of your home. Paint your nails. Just go with the simple and classy ones – French tip manicure, colorless, all-white or platinum. Skip the red and colorful ones.

I personally discourage nail art and bedazzled manicure because they look so messy and tacky for the occasion, and of course in the photos.

1 Day Before

Now that you are all ready, glammed up and pretty, you can now pause and breathe to write your vows.

Writing your vows on the day is also a cute thing to do, but trust me the jitters and the overwhelming nervousness may be too much to handle. Plus a lot of things can happen,a nd you might not be able to have a clear head to write them down.

So do yourself a favour, and your fiancé, write down your vows. When you’re relaxed, it’s easy to convey all your heart’s desires into writing. 😉

And on the day, just breathe. You’re going to get married to the man of your dreams, and the love of your life. What can go wrong? Just let go and enjoy each moment while it lasts.

Happy preps ladies, and advance best wishes!

7 Korean Beauty Products You Haven’t Tried Yet But Should

2017 was such a big year for beauty experimentation, especially that I finally came to grips that I should not just know how to put on my own makeup, but also learn to use the right products.

I actually tried the best-sellers from household makeup brands, but to no avail, they seem not just to compliment my skin type.

For the record, my skin is regular to dry, with open pores and highly noticeable pimple marks. That is actually a big disadvantage for girls like me who have fair skin.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining, but this just goes to show that there is no perfect skin type. You just got to work on with what you have.

Consequently, I tried to rummage through my makeup kit to see which products I like the most, and which ones work best for my face. And the funny thing is, all of them are Korean brands!

Thus, giving me the idea to be nifty and share them all with you.

  1. The Chok Chock Green Tea Watery Mist

Brand: Tony Moly

This is my go-to moisturizer! After washing my face, I spray a generous amount before applying the primer. It contains 100% pure green tea ferment extract. Its hydrating skin care keeps my face fresh and soft. You can also use this after applying your makeup, or anytime you feel like it.

  1. Naturalth Goat Milk Pure CC Cream

Brand: Tony Moly

I generally use this when I just have to look natural, nothing too fancy; something that I will wear when I’m out with the family. It doesn’t give much coverage, although you’ll love its SPF30.

  1. I Love Mascara

Brand: Mumuso

This is such a steal! I was in a rush to buy a mascara because I have to use it right away. To my surprise, it actually works with my lashes really well. It doesn’t smudge easily and they really make my lashes look thicker than they actually are. I have mine for about 5 months already, and its consistency looks pretty much the same when I first bought it.

  1. BCDation Cream

Brand: Tony Moly

It’s actually a combination of BB, CC and DD Cream! Yeah! I also can’t believe myself when I knew that such a thing exists!

But I’m glad it did! I was actually using L’Oreal Infallible before.

It provided me good coverage, but there was just something about it that doesn’t sit well with my face. I guess its how it never blends well with my neck or the acidity of the product and my face are not just that compatible.

IMG_20171228_135741.jpg

And so BCDation was my one-more-chance. Look at my face in this photo!

I love how it makes my face look so Korean, and how it doesn’t need powder to make it look unoily. Plus, the coverage is great!

I recommended it to a guy friend, and he was sold!

  1. Go Cover Concealer

Brand: Tony Moly

If you’re trying BCDation, I also highly suggest you get this concealer as well. I am feeling like they are partners. While the BCDation Cream gave me good coverage, this one sealed the deal.

The moment the lady in the store made me try this product, I was soooo kilig! They made my pimple mark so quiet, it didn’t seem like it was there at all!

I love how one tiny drop is already enough for your eyebags, and roughly about 4 more areas in your face that need concealing.

I bought one for my sister as a Christmas gift!

  1. Bubi Bubi Tint Balm

Brand: Lioele

This is the first product I tried for this Korean Brand. I got so curious because it’s one of the best sellers in Lazada. When I received the lippie, I knew why.

It’s a tinted lipbalm that really highlights and make your lips supple and kissable. I have chappy and pale looking lips, so this is perfect for me!

I can imagine it would also be wonderful for students!

Buy it here!

  1. Lip Color Stick

Brand: Lioele

You will be surprised how pigmented this lip crayon is! You don’t even need to swipe twice just to put some tint on your lips. It glides smoothly and leaves your lips ready for some styling.

My sister and I wearing the Rebecca- Cherry Red shade in different amounts of swipe! 🙂

I personally love gradient lips because it looks youthful and very innocent.

You can just put on the inner parts of your lips, and guide them away to the outer corners using your finger pad.

Plus, it’s also a 4-in-1 lippie! It’s pigmented as a lipstick, shines like a gloss, moisturizes like a lip balm, and lasts as a tint!

Buy it here! You can also check Lioele at their shop in Lazada!

This feels like a sequel from my recent Korean prenup-shoot post! Haha 🙂

So if you’re eyeing for some Korean products to try this new year, I highly recommend this list! And once you try them, can you please comment back or let me know?

I’m ecstatic to know how you’ll feel about them!

Enjoy, and always be beautiful merfriend! 😊
