5 Blogger Tips When Attending Media Events (and #CONNECT2018)

I have always been intrigued on creating a post like this.

Now, while I may not have the (acceptable) number of years about blogging professionally to be considered credible, I would just like to share some insights on what I have learned and observed in the several events I’ve been to, ever since Encyclopevia has made its name known to some brands and PRs, and as far as getting invited is concerned.

A month ago, I was invited to attend #CONNECT2018. I soon realized it was a great opportunity for me to make new friends, and meet new people in the industry.

#CONNECT 2018: Festival of Stories is a bloggers’ party aimed to connect bloggers to bloggers, bloggers to brands, and more importantly, NGP to bloggers. This was a gathering to assemble, and foster a good working relationship among partner brand storytellers in the past, present, and future.

I haven’t worked with NGP in the past, so it would seem that the future just got brighter and more promising!

So here’s my take on what to expect, and observe whenever you go to blogging, media or PR events like this one. Again, I do not consider myself an expert; I am just merely creating a guide based on my experience. Or, pakialamera lang talaga ako. 😀

  1. Do consider if your blog relates to the brand or purpose of the event.

Like most invites I tend to ask myself first if it is worth going to, or if my blog fits the niche of the event. Of course you have to spend on fare and food just in case, so the affair must be something you can relate to and would love to write about.

As for #CONNECT2018, I couldn’t be more excited. After beating my nausea episodes during my first trimester, I knew the event would be a great time to mingle and learn more about other creatives who share the same passion as I do.

  1. Be on time or cancel as early as you can, if you have to.

I’m guilty on this. I am not proud to say that I get late sometimes, but I know it’s something I have to improve on. As much as PRs are so kind and accommodating, I have also been in their shoes when I invited some media to our company’s event in the past.

It’s a little worrisome, because as a brand representative, you want things to be perfect and you don’t want your boss questioning your judgement on whether you invited the right people in the first place.

So, prepare early, leave early, prepare for the traffic jam!

**Note to self, and sharing to others. 😀

  1. Dress for the occasion and the venue.

Of course you have to wear something nice, and appropriate for the event. While most people say comfort is key, I would like to press on to not compromising image as well. If you want to make a statement go ahead, it makes you more recognizable!

As for me, I’m still trying to keep whatever’s left of my red-orange mermaid hair. It makes me, Encyclopevia.

The venue is also as important as the outfit, because after all it dictates what type of clothing and shoes you’re going to wear.

Since #CONNECT2018 was held in Greenfield District, I didn’t have any difficulty coming up with an ensemble. And to tell you the truth, this was a first for me to party in Greenfield District.

I must say that life becomes truly exciting when one has everything they need right outside their doorstep – from everyday necessities, access to business and commercial venues, to a continuum of lifestyle options from restaurants, entertainment, shopping, or relaxation hubs.

The fusion of modern, convenient living coupled with the comfort brought by a nature-rich haven is the kind of lifestyle Greenfield District offers. Not to mention that it is located in Mandaluyong City, which is in between Makati and Ortigas – an ideal place that’s probably 30++ minutes away from all the attendees’ homes.

  1. Bring lots of smiles and business cards.

You’ll never know who you’re going to meet, so you might as well be prepared. And don’t forget to network. Plus, have your data checked, so you can easily add them on Facebook or follow them on Instagram.

Through this, I was actually able to score more collaborations and partnerships via networking. It expands your circle, and allows you to be more exposed to opportunities you didn’t even know were even there!

  1. Don’t be that person who just goes because of the freebies.

While it’s actually something that’s making us more motivated to go to an event, I think it shouldn’t just be the only or the top thing we have to consider.

Tokens are relevant, but the experience is something you’ll never have, had you stay home. Freebies are just items money can buy, but the connections you’ll build, the friends you’ll make, and the knowledge and skills you’ll learn, those are priceless.

And remember, be friendly, some people may be as anxious as you, just relax, make friends and enjoy! 😀

You’re in a position not everybody gets to have. Be grateful, and make the most out of the opportunity!

Having said my piece, it’s making me more excited to attend #CONNECT2018’s upcoming blogger workshops, webinars, blog monetizing talks, online creative writing seminars , SEO, Google Analytics, and more! 😀

So, see you in future events, and lets #CONNECT! 😀

Free Manicure and More at Nailaholics on National Pampering Day

I can’t believe it has been a year ever since Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa launched its very first National Pampering Day!

I was so excited when I heard about it, considering I rarely go to nail salons; that is why you can imagine how I must’ve felt when they brought in the news that they are celebrating their 2nd year!

The National Pampering Day last year was such a big hit as they offered free manicure service and soothing hand massages from 1-AM to 12NN.

This year is so much better though because everyone will be treated to a free service of their choice: calming foot spa, a relaxing foot massage or a lulling manicure.

With Nailaholics’ recent partnership with O.P.I., a leading and well-loved nail lacquer brand in the world, the National Pampering Day will welcome more guests with an extension up to 1PM!

Moreover, this year’s celebration will also support the World Vision, The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), and Save the Philippine Seas.

I took this chance to experience Hand and Foot Paraffin! It was hot at first, but you’ll get used to it in no time!

When I got into their Fisher Mall branch to have some perfect nail-time,I also saw a good friend! Yay! It’s Me-an Clemente of Yogo and Cream! I remember being extra chatty with her during a pampering session last July.

I was also with John that day, and he also had his manly pampering. Who says guys don’t need a mani-pedi? 🙂

Now save the date, October 17, 2017 (Tuesday) from 10AM to 1PM, and head on to any Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa and go get yourself a free relaxing foot spa, foot massage or manicure!

Your only responsibility tomorrow, is to loosen up and enjoy!

How My Shopaholic Tendencies Landed Me in the Shopee Birthday Bash and its Video Collaboration

I have a confession to make. I never thought I’d like this. I was just trying it for a little bit, you know, testing it for a little while. But then, little whiles became days, weeks, months, years – and there was nothing I could do to stop.

Forgive me please, but I am a shopping addict.

I remember visiting the nearby mall in our university back in college every after school. I used to sneak my shopping goodies inside my bedroom window first, before finally going inside the house’s main door.

I was afraid my Mom will scold me again. But I was terminal. :/ Haha

Too ill to heal. 😀

You see, looking back I never really regret shopping much. Wanting nicer things actually pushed me to go pursue a business, so I can afford the things I want.

Little did I know, these “shopaholic tendencies” would pave the way for some opportunities, aside from Versaheel.

Last night, I went to the Shopee’s Birthday Bash!

(Ms Kathy Kenny Ngo,  Katsy Faustino and Me)

It was wonderful, and even though it took me forever to arrive because damn, the traffic was treacherous; I was still able to come in one piece.

Ibiza Beach Club was stupendous! I have seen one that’s similar in Cebu, and it is such a genius to have something like that here in Manila!

The place was in an all-white-theme, and that spells the extra class of the venue! We were situated in arc sofas and the little platforms served as pathways. The water in the little pools on the sides made everything more magical!

I am really grateful for being part of this year’s Shopee’s anniversary party. Not only did I meet new people, I was also given the chance to participate in its video collaboration with Manila Mash.

(With Drey Uy and Ms Kathy Kenny Ngo of Manila Mash)

We had the shoot in Café Libertad in Amorsolo, Makati. You’ve got to visit them! They have the most flavorful sandwiches in Makati, I tell you!

In here we talked about how convenient shopping became because of this app. I never have to go out just to canvass and buy something. Looking for a product became a lot easier through Shoppee!

You can watch the full video here, as produced by Manila Mash in collaboration with Shoppee!

It also helps me market Versaheel more. I can say that Shopee’s features come in real handy for entrepreneurs like me, because it allows us to have a medium to sell our products and get searched in the most suitable and convincing way!

Plus, the Shopee Guarantee makes it more genuine and safer, because the app becomes your gateway in buying online. And a seller will only collect the payment, once you, the buyer receives the product.

Trust issues are even addressed directly!

Be careful, please do this in moderation! Addictive tendencies have been reported! 🙂

25 Celebrities in Empire East Lip-Sync Battle

How in the world can you get 25 celebrities to perform in one big event? Wonder no more, for Empire East has got you covered!

Last December 13, Tuesday – all roads lead to Crossroads 77!

Every year, the Empire East Marketing Team prepares for the in-house salespeople’s Christmas party, but this year we were privileged to set-up for the employees’ as well. Although this year is a bit different, especially for me, since I wasn’t  physically present for most of the whirling zap and zing of the event planning. I took a leave for the last two weeks to take care of some family matters. Nevertheless, the celebration all seemed perfectly carried out.

Up until now, I am still in awe on how we managed to prepare two amazing parties in one day! I must say I am truly ecstatic, and humbled to be part of a team who never fails to create wonders and leave a delightful nostalgia, long after the events are over!

In my recent post, I shared what I wore, and it is salubrious to witness all the people you see at work, all glammed up for the occasion. It was surreal to see the familiar faces look so gorgeously stunning in their ball gowns and tuxedos. It was like our own version of Star Magic Ball!

My friends and fellow trainers were the hosts for the 18-hour long party!

We started with AURA: Radiant. Unique. Euphoric – A Christmas Party for Sales.

The energy just got higher when our salespeople started their lip-sync battle performances!

Justin Bieber

Meghan Trainor

Miley Cyrus

Nicki Minaj

Katy Perry

Jennifer Lopez

They were all super creative and talented! Imagine of only coming up with these in less than 7 days of preparation! I have deduced, a long time ago, that you must never underestimate the capacity of salespeople! They will always have something unique and great to show, and these are probably things you can’t even imagine possible!

I was assigned with the tallying of the scores and computation of results, and boy, did my head ache! The fight was toooooo close! I didn’t even know who’ll win! But Usher reigned supreme!

Usher – Over All Champion

Rihanna – 1st placedamascus1

Meghan Trainor – League of Damascus

Special awards! They were all so glamorous that night!

We ended around 4pm, that means we only have exactly 1 hour to prepare for the next party! OMG.

After one breath of relief, we took another gasp as we take on the next kerfuffle! (I really like this word I learned from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) And who says we’re not ready?

15 Couple Costumes to Try this Halloween 2016

It’s October once again, and what does that mean? Halloweeeeen! 🙂

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.  It’s that one legal day in the calendar where you can wear whatever you want, and no other person can say anything about it.

I have been a big fan of dressing up, and I have joined one cosplay event in Robinsons’ Galleria back in 2008. I wore a Mokona Modoki DIY costume, and my friend sew us up with a pair of cutie ears. She was the white one, and I was the black twin.

Some of my conservative friends frown upon this though, but I don’t care! Life is too short to just wear routinary things! Haha Thank goodness for Halloween! I can go and get crazy with a number of pieces weaved together, and easily get away with it! No judging, whatsoever!

And since I got happily attached this year, what better way to enjoy this fun (sometimes sexy) and show-stopping event, than to go together with your partner! For sure you and your beau are going to turn heads this year!

Scroll down for awesome couple costume ideas!

1. Ash and Pikachu

2. Soap and Loofah

3. Popeye (the Sailor Man) and Olive Oyl

3. Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater of Titanic

5. Russel and Mr. Fredrickson

6. Bandits

7. Bonnie and Clyde (the Best Dressed Criminals)

8. Joker and Harley Quinn

9. Toy Story’s Workout Barbie and Ken

10. Alice in Wonderland and the White Rabbit

11. Mario and Luigi (Plumbers)

12. King and Queen of Hearts

13. Minions

14. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum (Twins in Alice in Wonderland)

15. Wednesday and Pugsley Addams

I have compiled easy to make costumes just in case you go to a party at last minute’s notice. Don’t fret if you’re going there by yourself or with your friends. I bet you’re all going to have an amazing time just the same! And with all those photo-snapping you’ll barely have time to think you’re alone.

I’ll make another post for singletinees out there. Be sure to check back okay?

Meanwhile, what do you think of this post? Do you have other couple costume ideas? Let me know in the comments!

Be Your Own Health Artist at the Health and Wellness Fair 2016

Being a nurse has allowed me to learn more about the human body, its strengths, weaknesses, potentials, conversions, mutations, capacity and inabilities to regenerate, multiply and heal, etc. I believe that you will always have a choice to take in things that will make you stronger, and avoid other facets that may mark you otherwise. Yes, I am righteous like that. 😀

Not to sound preachy or anything, but I strongly support creating and following a strict and healthy lifestyle, especially for young professionals like me. We are that population that is mostly exposed to whirlwinds of events. You can imagine just how many things you can do, situations you can encounter and people you can meet in a day. Can you imagine all the stress and sleep deprivation you had to endure to pass that report on time? Sometimes, it’s a wonder how can a day only have 24 hours! Yes, I feel you. But given that as a fact, I still highly vouch for healthy living. Because we can only function well and better, when all things are in order. Aside from our WiFi and gadgets, our life and well-being must be in order too.

Be it as it may, I am excited to share with you an upcoming event that will delight us with bazaar exhibits, workshops on arts, fitness and entrepreneurship; and talks by experts on health and wellnes. These are dedicated to help us live and practice the best kind of healthy lifestyle there is!

A Piano Concert You Can, in Any Way Not Miss

Abelardo Galang II is a world-renowned Filipino piano artist. And he is my uncle.

In Butuan, where my dad and his siblings, including Tito Abel (how I call him) grew up, it is a common knowledge that a kid bearing the Galang surname is well-adept in playing the piano. My grandmom is a directress of the Galang Piano, Organ and Voice Studio for crying out loud! So you get the picture AND the pressure?

I recall befriending a kid in one of the resorts there, and when he learned that I am a Galang too, it seemed to him that it was natural to ask, “So magaling kang mag-piano?”. OMG. How wrong he was! The only piece I know how to play is “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “Mary Had a Little Lamb”. And no others.

I never had the interest as a child, or I was too afraid to learn. However, if I can turn back time, I would definitely want to acquire the skill, or rather develop the talent my Tito was able to nurture throughout the years.

(Circa 2011 *No smartphones yet and makeup skills)

Every Christmas, or in any time of the year that we get to be as complete as we can, my grandma or Mommy Two Carmen, (Mommy One is my real mom.) and Tito Abel would serenade us with their classic tunes from the grand piano. It’s such a wonder to hear them play every time, not to mention for FREE! Haha Thank God I’m family! Considering that they perform at concerts every once in a while.

To give you a background, you may read his bio below:

Abelardo Galang II,PhD.

Berlin-based Filipino Pianist Abelardo Galang II learned his early piano skills from his mother, Carmen. Later, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance (1992) from the University of the Philippines. In the first and only piano competition Galang participated, he was awarded the Grand Prix in the 1992 Philippine Piano Competition along with a scholarship from Japan Solidarity Committee for Asian Alumni (JASCAA). Through this grant, he obtained two Master’s degrees in Music (Piano Solo Performance and Chamber Music) from Musashino Academia Musicae, Tokyo, Japan (1996) and the Hochschule fuer Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, Germany (2000) where he trained with the German Pedagogue, Klaus Bäßler, a former jury and chairman of the Robert Schumann International Piano Competition. He was also a recipient of the Alfonso T. Yuchengco Foundation scholarship. Galang obtained his Doctorate degree in Music with honours from the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany (2010).

Galang performs regularly in solo recitals, chamber concerts and as Lied pianist in Europe and Asia. He was featured in the All Nation’s Festival in Rome (Italy), the International Piano Concert Series in Oberkirchen (Germany), the Artists’ Festival in Berlin (Germany). He has worked with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (Philippines), Manila Symphony Orchestra (Philippines), and the Otto Symphoniker (Germany) and collaborated with international artists including Jonathan Kelly (Solo Oboist, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra), Juan Pechuan, (Solo Oboist, London Symphony Orchestra), Arthur Hornig (Cellist, Rundfunk Symphonic Orchestra Berlin), among others.

His pedagogic accomplishments at the Berlin Piano School include his student Mr. Kon-Ui Pak, who won at the Ettlingen International Piano Competition in 2010 and was awarded the Baerenreiter Urtext Prize. Galang teaches at the Berlin Piano School since 2010 and is currently the Director of Music Performance and Chairman of the Piano Department of Philippine Women’s University. He is also a senior lecturer at the University of the Philippines College of Music.

Speaking of concerts, I bring you very good news! I’d like to share to you the chance to listen to the music that has played in the majestic walls of the Galang home.

After his Berlin performance, he’ll be flying to Manila to conduct one next month! Yay!

BTS : Empire East’s Bloggerazzi (Wave 2)

Last month, we started a campaign with some of the country’s rising online influencers composed of young professionals, students, moms, and freelancers.

If you have seen my first Bloggerazzi post, you would have an idea of what’s coming! We were supposed to have the shoot at The Rochester in San Joaquin, Pasig, however there was a scheduled event there as well. So, we decided to go to Kasara Urban Resort Residences again instead.

Can I just say that the weather is always cooperative in our shoots? The sun was so bright and happy that day, that’s why it was no wonder our bloggers had so much fun taking photos. Not to mention the place is without a doubt, very Instagrammable!

Peace-ing poses with Ms Jazz, Neri of Nheng’s Wonderland, and Nicole!

It’s a riddle for me on how a mom of twins such as Neri can juggle family life, career, and blogging all at the same time! I can only wish to have such sharp sense of time management when I become a mom like her someday! 🙂

Here is a photo of me with (from L-R) Luigi, Daphne, Lauren, Me, and Candis. These girls of Posh Possibilities  are the cutest! I swear they are so sweet and fun to be with in person!

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Props for Sir Mike for making me look oh-so-tall and slender in this photo! Golly, I could have sworn I was around 5″6 in this shot! Well, if I didn’t know me. But.. (shuts up. Haha :P)

This picture truly gives meaning to Empire East’s tagline – Life is at Empire East

I can’t wait to know who will win our photo share and like contest! We’ll announce them today! Do you have any guesses? Let us know who you think!

Dearberry: The Sweetest Treat for Beauty Buffet Lovers

I love makeup. I practically wear them everyday.

picture3Makeup is essential to any person, regardless of gender (I believe!). It enhances your physical image, making you look more presentable, credible, likeable, trustworthy, and extremely polished to match that high level of professionalism. Makeup is something you go to (aside from your bestfriend) everytime you have something special to prepare for or going on. There is just something that makes us feel extra confident and beautiful when we wear them. They are like amulettes of some sort. That is why, it was such a delight when I got invited to Dearberry Philippines’ Premier Launch for Bloggers and Video Bloggers.

Last September 3, I sashayed my excited glass wedge heels to Oakwood Premier Joy-Nostalg in Ortigas.

I just got in time and was wowed by all the pinkiness of Dearberry: from the registration booth to the hall, down to the press kit.

I sat down with fellow bloggers and was too excited for what’s about to happen. I read about Dearberry prior to attending and I found it very timely for the brand. The Philippine market is doing well, and our shores couldn’t be much happier than to welcome this Korean beauty line.

You see, I’ve always fancied Korean products. It makes me wonder how they can be so different from other products, but they definitely answer the needs and pampering wishes of Asian skin. I guess, that is why most of my makeup are Korean-made.

Minutes after, Odie and Marika of BamRock MDSG started the brand introduction and product  orientation. They were so cute and bubbly, that I am not sure which did I enjoy more, the product information or their hosting. Haha 🙂

Executives from Dearberry Korea were also present. They all look sprightly and youthful, which made me more curious about the brand. I am in my late 20s already, and investing on my skin is now a top-priority. Little did I know, I was in for something that can support me on my quest to look forever 21! Haha :))

The product orientation really had us glued to the slides, and the cosmetics being passed around, for testing and swatches. It was super cool how each product is unique and naturally becomes a top list in any make-up artist’s , enthusiast’s, and/or  newbie’s beauty loot.

So brace yourselves my dear mermaids, mermen, and merfolks!

Dearberry is  a Korean makeup and beauty brand that you’ll go shopcrazy about! That’s actually just an understatement. The brand essence of Dearberry is “affordable high quality cosmetics” made with ingredients from nature.” It’s called Dearberry because most extracts are from 8 berries (Blueberry, Acai berry, Raspberry, Aronia berry. Elderberry, Cranberry, Blackberry and Strawberry).

From the same makers of  high-end and good quality beauty brands such as The Face Shop, L’Oreal and Tony Moly, Dearberry is a promising line that will definitely do wonders to our skin and makeup pegs without burning holes in our pockets!

Dearberry believes the simple truth, “healthy skin is most beautiful” and sticks to the basics, “firstly keep skin healthy, then optimally solve target issues.”

It’s wonderful to know that these products are made of natural ingredients and fruit berries that are totally friendly, scientifically proven, and nurturing to the skin.

So as to pacify your impatient but excited hearts, here are the goodies you will soon welcome in your makeup kits!

Right bottle with orange cap – Waterproof Point Makeup Remover /  Left bottle with pink cap – Hypoallergenic makeup remover

Everlasting moisture is what these trio gives, you’ll never complain of dry skin again! Yay! :))

I love how this primer feels on the skin. It’s mattifying properties surely are strong!

I am amazed how this affordably priced gem covers my  stubborn pimple marks! Yes I’ve been using this after the event, and it’s a must-buy! I’ll post a review soon!

Suri suri Aguamenti Powder Pact (This reminds me of a magic spell Harry Potter casts in the basin in Half-blood Prince! Potterheads, dibaaaa?!) This is very light on the skin. Makes you feel like you’re not wearing any makeup at all.

Gives you exceptionally good finish that covers blemishes!

Sometimes, when I don’t have to train a class or face clients, I do not feel compelled to wear makeup, worrying I am just putting to much gunk in my face that will later on cause my pores to breakout. But Dearberry erases all those woes away! Now these are very helpful especially when I’m all feeling lazy – a good set of kilay (brow) tools and makeup! Haha Truly, kilay is life!

The Rock It eye pallette is so dainty and it reminds me of prom, first kisses, and innocence! These are excellent for weekend dates and girly hangouts with friends!

The eyeshadows also come in singles! My favorite is the Climon Brown shade, which I got in the free loot. Browns and nudes are simply the most versatile shade for every outfit, event,  and skincolor.

Must eyetem Mascara! They glide evenly to your lashes, I promise!

Very helpful lipbalms for the cold and wintry weather! Either in the office or university, this should definitely be in your beauty list right now!

OMG! I will repeat: A girl can NEVER have too many lipsticks. It’s a fact. Bow.

The crown detail inside of the Prin-sense Duo is such a takeaway! It will undoubtedly make you feel that this cute little lipbalm is made just for you! How can they know that we are into crowns? Dearberry must have ESP or something!

Good facial masks are a great way to pamper stressed skin from a hard day’s work.

This soothing cream is waterbased and can be a good alternative if your skin is too sensitive for oil-based creams.

These queenly products bring back the energy of your skin and revitalize the bright skin tone with a fresh feeling left behind.

Snail creams are all the rage both in Korea and the Philippines right now! They lock in moisture and protect your skin in the eye area from harmful allergens in the environment.

The oh-so-cute packaging is such an endearing surprise to keep us all happy and perky when we’re using these perfume hand creams! This is perfect for girls who are always inside airconditioned establishments, like me! The cold is an awesome venue for dry skin, hands and chappy lips! Yikes! So this handcream is a savior!

There was also a makeup session after the presentation. We were taught how to apply basic and natural makeup. With all the many tutorials on Youtube and blogs, I highly appreciate this one! It gave me a lot of insights on how to apply such good quality makeup, by looking more for less.

The event was a total success, and an amazing experience indeed! I got to meet and be friends with beautiful bloggers and vloggers!

Say hi to Cas (Vlogger / Youtube Channel Instagram) and Erika (Blogger / Blog / Instagram) . Visit their amazing perspectives in their pages!

This awesome lady, Lou (Blogger / Blog / Instagram ) to whom for a very short time, I have shared so many things about life and love and work, and so many things I cannot count with my fingers already!
